Most people can mistake anxiety attacks to be heart attacks. The symptoms maybe similar but they are technically different. This article tries to discuss why people develop anxiety attacks disorders and its history.

Man by nature has the option for “fight or flight”. This means that without much thought a person can instinctively pick what options to take. Fight means taking the challenge head on like when in the face of danger to his life he faces the threat and physically battle it out. Flight on the other hand means when in the face of danger and sensing that he cannot match the strength of the danger he runs away for safety.

In fact this option to choose between to fight o flight has given man the advantage over other creatures of this world. Man is gifted with intelligence that is why he can discern and readily understand if he can compete or just run away in the face of danger.

In both instances to fight or just run away, the adrenaline rush is present. If man decides to fight the adrenaline rush makes him stronger and agile while if he chose to run away the adrenaline also serves him pretty well. With this characteristic he can easily climb a tree because his hands excrete sweat to make it grip the tree more and stay out of harm’s way.

This natural impulse is a very beneficial reaction to dangerous situations. This has kept man alive for thousands of years already. And most importantly this ability to react is still with us even at this stage of our evolution.

This can especially be felt whenever we are tasked to deliver a presentation in front of large audience or whenever we are being called to the office of the company president over something we did. In both cases we can either accept the invitation and face our fear or just decline and run away and hide. This is just natural for us to experience.

This becomes not normal when we experience this too often and when the fear becomes excessive or unreasonable and persists even in the absence of an obvious trigger then it is time to consult our doctor and immediately seek treatment for the anxiety attacks.

When a person is experiencing anxiety attacks it is usually characterized by repeated episodes of sudden or intense and unwarranted bouts of fear and terror. An example is when a person suffers from recurrent panic attack this can often lead to agoraphobia or fear of the crowd. And this will naturally result to the person fearful of leaving his house.

The so-called generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) can be persistent when it occurs and can exist for months or even years. Other chronic anxiety disorders include a long term psychological distress usually after experiencing a traumatic event or natural catastrophes. While obsessive compulsive disorders are characterized by recurring and disabling thoughts. To a normal person this may look like very irrational and unreasonable but to the sufferer this is very real. An example is the repeated washing of hands even if it is clean already. The charles linden review can point this out immediately.

Some researchers are not yet certain why some individuals are susceptible to stress and anxiety attacks while others not. But some research says that it may be due to genetics or the person was already exposed to anxiety at an early age thus it manifested when the person grew into adulthood.

Still, another cause for anxiety attacks is when the person took various drugs and chemical substances. An example is the excessive intake of caffeine, high doses of non-prescription cold remedies as well as inhalation of asthma medications. Withdrawal from tobacco, narcotics, alcohol and other addictive substances can also cause anxiety attacks.

The treatment of anxiety attacks can take many forms. Psychotherapy is one such treatment available to sufferers these days. In the same manner, psychotherapy is also used to treat other mental disorders like phobia, severe depression and obsessive compulsive disorders.

By medical practice, psychotherapy works best if it is complemented by medication for anxiety attacks. This could include a short-term therapy using benzodiazepine tranquilizers. This is the primary component for the treatment of milder forms of anxiety.

One of the most common problems that are encountered by each one of us, so here are some tips that might help you to overcome anxiety.

Anxiety, often we have read about it heard about it and I am sure everyone must have had at least a few experiences of anxiety. It is just like a reflexive action that happens with us when we are either tensed or when we face a problem. It is actually a very common term that is used for the disorders that causes stress, fear, nervousness, worrying etc. Anxiety attack is a normal thing that happens to everyone and is directly proportional to our behavior and it does not always need the involvement of our conscious mind, at times it happens just without our consent. Various incidents may lead to anxiety.

Hence anxiety attack is a part and parcel of everybody’s life and is nothing more than an experience of a general state of stress, worry or fear before facing various situations like an interview or a test. But when these feelings start to interfere in your daily life and prevents you from being at peace then it is certainly not justified. This is the time when you need to think about the cures of anxiety attack.

For the initial level a doctor is definitely not needed. It’s we who can have a control over it. There are some very basic things that we could do, like:

1. Exercise: The very first thing that is suggested to deal with anxiety attack is a regular practice of exercise. It is a universal fact that exercise is a stress buster. As per the research reports 30 minute of schedules exercise at least three to five times a week is the best self help technique. If you find it difficult to get adapted to yoga then you can go for an hour of aerobics on a regular basis.

2. Relaxation Techniques: Deep breathing when practiced regularly is very effective. Slowly breath in through your nose taking the air to your abdomen and then slowly breath out through your mouth. Proper muscle relaxation exercise can top up the breathing exercise.

3. Learn to manage stress: One should know how to manage stress, and should know how to handle the negative thoughts. Positive thinking helps a lot. One easy way is to pen down all your negative thoughts and positive thoughts as well, and then try to replace the negative ones with the positive ones.

4. Meditation: Meditation has been into practice since ages. It helps one individual to de stress himself/herself, and distressing means reduction in the anxiety level. It also diminishes the negative thoughts and helps you to become composed.

5. Counseling: Talking to a person who can listen to your problem and who can support you also is of great help

These were some of the self help techniques to get over the anxiety attacks, but if these techniques are not able to resolve the problem and one still faces the threat then one should think about the anxiety attack treatments. Anxiety attack has become a very common thing and so today people are also looking forward to get some medical treatment for this disorder. Some medications are:

1. Benzodiazepine: It is a very famous anti anxiety medicine. It is a medicine that has been accepted widely and is well known for its instant reaction. Usually the patient is asked to take this medicine 30 to 60 minutes prior a stressful situation.

2. Klonopin and Xanas: These are two anti-anxiety drugs which are comparative more effective and a little less addictive because it does not contain valium. This medicine helps you to relax hence reducing the level of anxiety.

3. SSRIs or Serotonin Specific Reuptake Inhibitors: these are the antidepressant drugs. Use of this medicine helps you to increase the natural level of serotonin (neurotransmitter that has a variety of effects on a person’s mood) in your brain. This medicine does not have an instant effect, it takes at least 2 to 6 weeks to notice any significant effect.

4. Therapy: The main aim of a therapy is to reach the source of the attack, it deals with the identification of the problem. It does not have any instant effect but it is the best in the long run.

The drugs are preferred only for the instant reaction, because prolong use of these drugs can cause some side effects in the body like dryness of mouth, sleepiness, stomach problems, adverse sexual effects etc. These are only good for the instant effect but it is not advisable to get into the regular practice of drugs to overcome anxiety rather one should go for the therapies which may not have instant effect but are the best in the long run as they have no side effects.

Anxiety attacks are rarely seen as something to worry over. On the contrary, they are an indication of a panic disorder which needs treatment. The truth about anxiety attacks is that they’re dangerous to the sufferers and those around them.

Anxiety attacks are commonly known as panic attacks, although this is a somewhat over-simplified term for emotions that may dictate very drastic and sometimes, dangerous reactions. Anxiety attacks are part of a psychological disorder often referred to clinically as a panic disorder.

The broad umbrella term of panic disorder actually refers to frequent recurring feelings of unexplained anxiety. These sudden emotions of panic are so strong, they can actually drive a person to unreasonable erratic behavior which may or may not include anti-social behavior like isolation, self-mutilation and even suicide. These reactions can be dangerous not just to the ones suffering from the ailment but to those around them as well which is why help for panic disorder patients is imperative as soon as possible.

Before any steps can be taken to treat someone suffering from anxiety attacks, a positive diagnosis has to be made first. This can only be done with an experienced medical practitioner – usually a psychologist or psychiatrist. At its earlier stage, patients would often experience a rapid heartbeat and a feeling of unexplained fear that comes out of the blue and is as much a surprise to the patient as it is to the ones they are with. More severe cases will include physical evidence of anxiety like perspiration and dizziness.

These attacks are more of a psychological and emotional nature, meaning they are inward feelings that are not obvious to those around them unless one were to watch out for specific signs. The emotions, however, are so strong that they manifest into physical reactions like dizziness, hyperventilation and trembling. More serious complications can arise from such overwhelming emotions such as severe anti-social behavior like a tendency to isolation and suicidal attempts.

Help for panic disorder patients should begin as soon as it is diagnosed – if possible, even when it is suspected that he or she is suffering from anxiety attacks. Again, off-the-counter pills and drugs are not recommended as these only provide temporary, superficial relief. They calm the sufferer down for a short period of time and before long, another attack may come with equal or more intensity.

Medication for anxiety attacks are often prescribed after a thorough analysis and diagnosis by a practicing psychologist. However, not all panic disorder patients are prescribed medication – anxiety attacks are believed to stem from some prior traumatic experience and in order to face and come to terms with the experience will require some amount of quality analysis.

Whatever medication that is prescribed will often be accompanied by some kind of psychotherapy. This includes:

1. Counseling. The psychologist will need to delve into the patient’s life experiences and lifestyle in order to understand the triggers for such anxiety attacks.

2. Hypnotherapy. Also known as hypnosis, this has been proven highly effective in curing a patient from any panic disorder. However, this procedure is done only on those who believe in hypnosis in general.

3. Yoga and meditative sessions. More holistic treatment includes calm-inducing exercises like yoga and Tai Chi with the intention to calm the patient down literally. Yoga, in particular, is usually accompanied by some meditating sessions where patients are taught to live in the moment and breathe deeply. Deep breathing encourages total blood circulation and this, in turn, will bring enough oxygen to the brain to counter any anxious tendencies.

4. Third brain encouragement. The Third Brain is what most holistic teachers term a perfect balance of the left and right brain. When the Third Brain is active, a person will achieve perfect sync with his body and the universe. By encouraging Third Brain activity, panic disorder sufferers will be able to overcome whatever anxious feelings they have rationally (left brain) and understand and accept their fears in a clear, creative concept (right brain).

The main types of medication for anxiety attacks are antidepressants and anti-anxiety drugs. These work mainly at calming down the sufferer with their sedative effects. Both can reduce panic disorder symptoms immediately but are ineffective as a permanent recourse, after the patient becomes too used to their effects.

Help for panic disorder patients, while easily available, is often not perceived to be essential as many people still think panic disorders are not a serious medical condition. On the contrary, untreated, anxiety attacks can lead to very serious repercussions which are dangerous to both the sufferers and those they love.

Anxiety disorders can be disturbing enough for anyone. However, when the first anxiety attack occurs, you need to be prepared to face the challenge and proceed with the treatment immediately. Get to know what it takes from your side.

Anxiety can become a cause of concern if it begins to undermine your work efficiency and the ability to face stressful situations without much of psychological wear and tear. Routinely, all of us are subjected to pressure situations at one point of time or another but it is stress itself which is shown to be of great help in enhancing our output and sharpening our cognitive faculties to meet the challenges. However, if and when stress starts manifesting as unhealthy levels of anxiety you may find it difficult to withstand tense situations which confront us routinely.

It is precisely here that one needs to become aware of the risks involved and be in the know about anxiety disorders and effects associated with them. There are various forms of anxiety disorders in existence which might affect the emotional and physical well-being of an individual in different ways. Generalized anxiety disorder is one of the most common types which involve fear of the unknown accompanied by trembling of hands and feet, palpitation, muscular tension and a tendency to live with unusual levels of stress.

One of the most dramatic manifestations of anxiety could, however, manifest in the form of anxiety attacks which feature episodes of intense fear and panic along with appearance of accentuated symptoms associated with generalized anxiety disorder. If the anxiety attacks recur with increasing frequency, it can well develop into panic disorder which is one of the worst conditions usually associated with anxiety. The victim tends to live in constant fear of panic attacks recurring anywhere and especially in places where help might be difficult to reach.

This fear itself can grow into Agoraphobia, fear of panic attacks’ recurrence which makes it even more difficult for the victim to withstand the strain. It is here that a whole variety of anxiety attacks treatments might come handy, which can be particularly effective when used in combination with psychotherapy. The classical symptoms which manifest in an anxiety attack include hyperventilation, heart palpitation, trembling of body, nausea, dizziness, numbness and hot or cold flashes accompanied by a feeling of being choked or losing control.

One might feel like a heart attack just took place because of the similarity of symptoms involved, however, it is a recurrence of panic attacks which needs to be avoided at all costs. With the right kind of medication panic attacks can well be brought under control but under all conditions, self-medication should not be resorted to when dealing with this form of anxiety disorders. Among the medications usually prescribed for anxiety attacks, a variety of antidepressants figure in which might, however, take weeks before appearance of the first positive symptoms.

Benzodiazepines, on the other hand, are found to be instantly effective in terms of results and might be administered during a panic attack for quick relief from the symptoms. However, if not administered with great care, they can become addictive and manifest the negative side of medication therapy. Even so, anxiety attacks treatments cannot fairly be termed as an effective long-term solution and can lead to withdrawal symptoms when used in isolation. Cognitive-behavioral therapy presents the most viable solution for treating anxiety disorders most effectively. Accompanied with lifestyle changes and family support, it can work wonders for victims of anxiety disorders.

Some of the other alternative therapies sometimes sought for a solution include systems like biofeedback, acupuncture and even hypnosis. However, one needs to be very cautious while seeking alternatives and only professionals should be enlisted for help. It is also observed that in combination with an array of self-help strategies, alternative systems can sometimes be of great use for those suffering from anxiety attacks. When undergoing treatment for panic attacks with standard medication, one also needs to be aware of commonly observed side-effects associated with these anti-anxiety drugs.

Benzodiazepines, a most effective variety of such drugs feature the likes of Xanax, Valium, Klonopin and Ativan which work by inducing a slowdown of brain activity which can well manifest in the form of many side effects. Some of these might include drowsiness, slurring of speech, a feeling of disorientation, blurred vision and temporary forgetfulness. That is why along with proper medication panic attacks need to be treated with a healthy dose of behavioral therapy and self-help strategies which can lead to better results with but fewer complications, if any.

In order to cure a condition, you need to be aware of what it is in the first place. The same thing applies to anxiety attacks. Learn to recognize the signs early on so you can take the next needed step.

If you think the symptoms you experience whenever you are nervous, or anxious about something, or panic when you have to do something you are completely and utterly nervous about, you might want to think again because sometimes it could be a sign of something much more serious. While it is true to sometimes panic a little, panicking too much or too often could be a sign of something much more serious. It could be a sign of anxiety attacks.
And if you are experiencing these symptoms and signs of a panic attack or an anxiety attack far too often than you should, and if you are panicking and getting anxious over every little thing, it could be sign that you might need some help after all. Because although panicking and distressing over something once in a blue moon is perfectly fine and common, doing it far too often is definitely not normal and most definitely not good for your health at all.
When you find that you are in fact a victim of panic attack, it is probably time that you seek help for anxiety attacks before the situation becomes something which is a little worse. One thing you need to realize about this condition is that it can happen to anyone at anytime, no matter who you are or how old you are and one of the best ways to treat the solution and find a cure to the problem head on is to treat it early and in order to do that, you need to be able to recognize the symptoms that occur in the first place. Recognizing that you need to seek help for these anxiety and panic attacks that you are experiencing is definitely the first step, it is very often not so simple to do as we might like to think.
That is because the problem with many people is that they are not aware enough of a certain medical condition and they fear going out to the doctor to find out more information about it because they don’t want to be told some bad news that could affect their lives. Although ignorance is bliss, it is most certainly not the case in this situation because if you have panic attacks, you most certainly need medication for anxiety attack of you could potentially be putting your health on the line here.
The symptoms are so common and similar to ones experience when you’re nervous or anxious about something that sometime people just tend to dismiss them. In fact, a lot of people may not be able to recognize that they suffer from these conditions because they may mistake the symptoms for something that commonly occurs when they are feeling scared about something or even nervous about something, which makes it hard to you seek help for anxiety attacks in the first place. Just to be safe, if you find the panic session occur far too often than they should, just to be on the safe side, you should seek out a doctor’s advice to help you. Here are some of the signs you could look out for:

You experience heart palpitations or your heat rate increases faster than normal that you find difficulty in breathing. This is something very common whenever we experience something that frightens us but occurring far too often could be a sign of anxiety disorder. Seek help immediately if you find that they occur too often because it is not healthy for the heart to be experiencing these kind of symptoms.
You can’t breath and your throat constricts every time you feel anxious or nervous about something. The tightness in your throat is a pretty serious issue because it can sometimes result in difficulty in breathing so seek help for it immediately if you experience this rather frequently because this is certainly not something common. This symptom you will find usually occurs when you feel fear about or towards something.

Even if you think your symptoms may not be that serious and you want to attempt to self-medicate at home, try to avoid doing so. The thing about medication is that not everyone will respond to the treatments in the same way so get your doctor's advice and never attempt to do it on your own.

While historically, a disabled athlete has been anticipated to have been injured, as of late, anxiety disorders have claimed players' field time and altered the scope of anxiety disorders in society. Public exposure of panic disorders is on the rise, and with baseball players being afflicted by them, the diagnoses are in question. Are athletes treading the line of cop-out and serious social disability?

Stress is an insurmountable characteristic of a successful career as a professional athlete. In recent years, it has been the cause of several MLB players' appearance on disabled lists rather than the field. Joey Votto of Cincinnati cited it as the cause for his June 2009 placement on the disabled list, and many other players have joined him. Some medical professionals have expressed concern that as anxiety disorders become more prevalent in sidelined athletes, the serious nature of panic disorders will also be sidelined, as overdiagnosis may become an issue.

A medical history is required to demonstrate a panic disorder, and medical professionals have begun to speculate that some of the anxiety disorders that players have cited for their D-listing have not been legitimate, as anxiety disorders don’t develop overnight.

Nevertheless, the severity of anxiety disorders cannot be underestimated, and while their prevalence in the MLB is on the rise, this may not be a credible measure of these disorders' occurrence.

To stop panic attacks and anxiety attacks, one must understand these conditions well. Panic attacks are over-reaction of mind and body to fear whereas, anxiety is disturbed state of mind due to fear of imaginary things in future. In both conditions, there may not be any relation with actual reality. Panic attacks are abrupt and sudden. This leads to release of chemicals like adrenaline in body which causes flushing of face, sweating, fast breathing etc. Cure for panic attacks and panic disorders, as well as anxiety attacks, can not be considered as totally medical practitioner’s job. The friends, relatives and well wishers play very vital role in treating anxiety disorders.

There is very informative and useful lens on SQUIDOO, titled ‘More then 19 million people suffer from Anxiety Phobia Disorders’. These books are titled ‘Taking Control of Your Life’, ‘Easy Calm Real Anxiety Relief’, ‘Stress – The Silent Killer’ and ‘Bio-Living In A High-Tech World’.

One should carefully read , study and apply the knowledge that one can get from these books and author’s blog to get rid of anxiety phobia disorders.
