Do you fear public speaking? Is your social phobia hurting your career and holding you back from great opportunities? Are you always dreading how to public speak? If you answered yes, the fear of public speaking statistics says you are not alone. Fear of public speaking, a social anxiety disorder, is the one of top five fears in our society. Listen as Jim interviews Patricia Stark, the founder of MediaImageCoach.com on some tips on public speaking. Jerry Seinfeld got a big laugh when he joked about a survey that found that the fear of public speaking ranks higher in most peoples minds than the fear of death. In other words, at a funeral, the average person would rather be in the casket than giving the eulogy. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to conquer your social anxiety and start capitalizing on those great opportunities that come your way. Patricia Stark, the founder of MediaImageCoach.com, has empowered and esteemed top Television Hosts, News Anchors, Broadway performers, CEOs, Authors, Medical Professionals, Sales Professionals and many of the 80% of Americans who fear public speaking and have not learned what is public speaking. Patricia Stark is a fun, sharp, and approachable television host & actor. A former Miss New York, El Salvador Karaoke Contest Winner, News Anchor, and eye ball shaking champion, Patricia has served as host for several nationally distributed programs airing in the US and Canada. Most recent news: Patricia recently completed a pilot …

Many families are destroyed due to ignorance about Selective Mutism. "Selective mutism (SM), formerly called elective mutism, is best understood as a childhood anxiety disorder characterized by a child or adolescent's inability to speak in one or more social settings (eg, at school, in public places, with adults) despite being able to speak comfortably in other settings (eg, at home with family). Affected individuals understand language use and, although they have the physical and cognitive ability to speak, they demonstrate a persistent inability to speak in particular settings over a particular period of time due to anxiety. This differs from the developmentally appropriate behavior of a child with limited speaking and social interaction behaviors during the first month of school or daycare when he or she is adjusting to a new social environment with peers and teachers. SM also differs from shyness, which is a socially adaptable personality trait. To meet diagnostic criteria, the child or adolescent with SM shows significant impairment in daily functioning, typically in educational or occupational settings, and by refraining from social participation at school and other settings due to a pronounced fear of speaking. Most affected children and adolescents function normally in other ways and learn age appropriate skills; however, some may have other comorbid anxiety disorders, developmental delays such as impaired social skills, and communication disorders in addition to …

I had to get a Tetanus shot. But I have a fear of needles. When I was receiving my immunizations at school (was like 5 or 6), they didn't bother me. I felt really tough and macho because the boys were crying and I wasn't. So later on, I got a rash and had to go to the doctors with my mummy and daddy. He gave me an option. An injection to make it go away right now or a cream to make it go away in like a week. I was like 'yeah, give us the needle because I'm real brave and tough and all that'. The injection was okay, but as he pulled it out, I felt so sick, like I was going to faint. I got really scared and I thought I might die. And my parents were doing nothing to make it go away, they were just gonna watch me die. And ever since then, I've been scared of needles. Needle phobia is quiet common. This is probably because little kids have bad experiences like mine with them. But the question is, why do some people develop phobias out of these experiences, but others who have equal experiences remain unscathed? Phobias look ridiculous to people who don't understand them (as well as the other anxiety disorders). A person is shit scared of something that is considered harmless. But the phobic knows it's irrational. But it doesn't stop the fear, which is real. One of the reasons I want to spread awareness about anxiety disorders is because they are the most common class of mental illness, yet people are ridiculed for it because of ignorance. I know first hand how ignorant people …

www.youtube.com www.encognitive.com North America Selling Sickness explores the unhealthy relationships between society, medical science and the pharmaceutical industry as they promote their new miracle cures — selling not just drugs but also the latest diseases that go with them. Drug manufacturers today fund aggressive marketing campaigns designed to create public awareness of previously unknown diseases, or known by less dramatic names. Shyness thus becomes branded as "Social Anxiety Disorder," constant worry becomes "Generalized Anxiety Disorder," and premenstrual tension is now "Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder." The sale of SSRI anti-depressant medications used to treat these and other diseases, such as Paxil, Zoloft and Prozac, has become an annual billion market. Selling Sickness features commentary from paid medical consultants to the drug companies, patients, researchers, patient advocates, advertisers, attorneys, and psychiatrist Dr. David Healy, a critic of the pharmaceutical industry. The film also examines the deceptive use of clinical trials sponsored by the pharmaceutical companies, the highly addictive nature and many adverse side effects (like suicidal impulses among adolescent patients) of popular SSRI anti-depressants. At an FDA hearing in Washington, DC, the testimony of parents who have lost their children to suicide starkly emphasizes the need for greater regulation of these heavily promoted and prescribed anti-depressants. http

Exposure Anxiety: The Invisible Cage Exposure Anxiety is the Invisible Cage, an involuntary response that challenges the person to either side with it and identify self with their own avoidance, diversion and retaliation responses or live with the frustration and despair of being aware of self but buried alive. Published in 2003, the book, Exposure Anxiety; The Invisible Cage, was the first ever book by a person diagnosed with autism specifically focusing on co-morbid anxiety and impulse control disorders effecting those on the autistic spectrum and introduced an Indirectly Confrontational Approach designed to turn around Exposure Anxiety.
www.medstores.net Venlafaxine (Effexor, Efexor) is an arylalkanolamine serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI). It has a similar chemical structure to the opioid derivative tramadol, and has the tertiary amine functional group necessary for µ-opioid receptor recognition (cf. lefetamine), though it is unknown whether it has an opioid agonist effect. It is surprisingly effective in treating depression in heroin and other opioid addicts compared to all other conventional antidepressants. First introduced by Wyeth in 1993, now marketed by Pfizer, it is licensed for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD), as a treatment for generalized anxiety disorder, and comorbid indications in certain anxiety disorders with depression. In 2007, venlafaxine was the sixth most commonly prescribed antidepressant on the US retail market, with 17.2 million prescriptions. In children and adolescents, venlafaxine (like other antidepressants) has a potential to increase suicidal thoughts, attempts and events of self-harm Multiple double blind studies show venlafaxine's effectiveness in treating depression. Venlafaxine has similar efficacy to the tricyclic antidepressants amitriptyline (Elavil) and imipramine, and is better tolerated than amitriptyline. Its efficacy is similar to or better than sertraline (Zoloft) and fluoxetine (Prozac), depending on the criteria and rating scales used. Higher doses of venlafaxine are more effective, and more patients achieved remission or …
Children and teens with PTSD can have a number of symptoms after a trauma that fall into three categories: 1. Reliving the trauma in some way. 2. With this type of disorder, the fear is persistent and reoccurring, even though the feared object or situation entering a person's life is often out of control of that person. This anxiety disorder is affecting up to 18% of Americans and is the second most common mental illness among men and the most common mental illness among woman. For many, phobias interfere with daily life. Luckily, there is help. There are many ways to treat phobias, no matter how they have developed. If you think that you suffer from a phobia, no matter what it may be, see your doctor immediately. He or she can recommend a treatment plan for you so that you can begin to overcome your fears and take back the control of your daily life. Phobias do not have to say with you forever.
Anxiety Disorders Association of America Lauches New Educational Campaign About OCD Jerilyn Ross, President and CEO, Anxiety Disorders Association of America Blair Simpson, MD, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Columbia University _____________________________________________________ Background: More than 2 million Americans suffer from obsessive-compulsive disorder (or OCD) and millions more may be living untreated. "Treat It, Don't Repeat It: Break Free From OCD," is a new national public-education campaign from the Anxiety Disorders Association of America (ADAA) designed to educate people about the disorder and its symptoms, and encourage people who have OCD to seek treatment. A recent national survey commissioned by ADAA and conducted by Harris Interactive underlined the need for increased awareness of OCD. Specifically, the survey found that nearly 7 in 10 respondents said their OCD, if left untreated, negatively impacted their personal relationships as well as their ability to carry out normal daily activities and their level of satisfaction with their careers. However, most adults who are currently being treated report that treatment had a positive impact on the relationships in their lives. The "Treat It, Don't Repeat It: Break Free From OCD," public-education campaign will provide information about OCD, including how to recognize symptoms and how to discuss treatment options with a health care professional. The campaign includes several PSAs …
