Studies in the United States have shown that women are far more susceptible to anxiety attacks as opposed to men in the ratio of two to one cases. Studies for finding general anxiety disorder treatment should therefore start from this point that is the study of the human psyche.
The term while clunky refers to the well known reaction to feeling or anxiety and fear, emotions which – it must be remembered – exist in each and every one of us. What pushes these feeling into the region of chronic medical condition are when those afflicted cannot take control of their thoughts leading to physically damaging ailments.
Generally, anxiety attacks on those afflicted with said conditions do not manifest physically. It comes often without any warning, and the physical remedies or medications for panic disorders would be the next to follow.
Someone suffering from a general anxiety attack might feel a sense of aggravated emptiness. In their minds, they grasps about for something to hold on to, something to anchor their thoughts, yet failing to do so and thus plunging even deeper into a state of despair they know not why it’s there in the first place.
There are no single causes to an attack of anxiety for someone suffering from such condition. Often, the trigger may well be something as innocuous as walking past a stranger who then does something which disgust them, for example spitting on the sidewalk.
From this point on, those affected will engage this single experience with bitter thoughts which would expand exponentially and eventually going beyond the act, spilling into other anxieties which not even be remotely connected.
Often, those afflicted with general anxiety disorder are unable to articulate what it is that they fear. What they do know is a feeling of dread, of hopelessness, of being unable to take charge of their lives and that of their loved ones.
Persistent queries of “What’s wrong?” would normally aggravate the situation further, as they do not know. They cannot however comprehend that the very person trying their level best to comfort them, too, doesn’t know what it is that causes such anxieties. It becomes then an exercise of futility and might prove destructive should the other person react negatively to the situation.
Anxiety disorders, if not arrested, can lead to severe and chronic medical condition, especially depression. As it is almost impossible to identify the cause for such attacks, the best move to take would normally be to comfort the person without putting any pressure, allowing them to calm their thoughts and feelings.
What is more important however is for those afflicted to recognize the condition they are suffering from. This is the first and most important step one can take to find a cure for general anxiety disorder. Recognizing that it’s a medical condition, and thus curable would put those afflicted in the right frame of mind to push them into doing what is needed.
Finding a cure is however more difficult as the range of anxieties and fears are varied from one patient to another, and what works in someone will not work on the other. Even the inherent cause triggering the anxiety attack would also differ, although stress is a well known culprit.
This somewhat point to why women are more afflicted. Generally women bear more responsibilities as opposed to men, and as such, their minds are burdened even more. This is a generalization which might not go down well with many, but the sad truth remains that this is a global affliction on women.
Finding a cure for general anxiety disorder conditions must therefore start with the strengthening of the self, the being. Understanding that there is a limit to the number of things we can bear the responsibility for is the first step towards seeking a permanent cure.
Support is therefore a crucial aspect of treating someone with general anxiety disorder. It is during these calm periods that they can talk about what worries them without triggering an anxiety attack.
Having someone else to focus one help the patient to externalize their fears and in so doing, identifying what they are so as to be able to deal with them in a concrete and satisfying manner.
