How To Cure Anxiety Attacks
The world is figuratively shrinking. The world we live in is becoming smaller and smaller as the days march by. However, before we panic and send everyone scampering for safety let me explain further. The earth is not like a balloon losing helium and in the process becoming small. It is not like that at all. We are not losing valuable land space and acreage.
The world is getting smaller because everything these days are going faster. Faster modes of transportations and communications are becoming common. Bullet trains that run several miles per minute are a common sight in most countries. They cut travel time to almost 75% than the usual which means for people more time to do other things. People also prefer to send messages using the e-mail rather than using the “snail mail” or thru the post office. E-mails mean instant messages even if the person is half-way across the globe. No need to wait for the friendly postman to drop by your house to give your letter which was mailed by the sender two weeks ago. Not to mention faster information downloads.
With this general scenario happening in the world today, most people can’t help but feel relieved and comforted that somehow they can do more within a very limited period of time. There is a need to somehow catch up and latch unto the so-called “information super highway” asap before it is too late. Technology has been a boon to most modern people.
However, this positive effect on our lives cannot be said to be true for other people. This faster lifestyle bringing about a smaller world is in fact a bane to them. Somehow coping in this ever changing, ever faster world causes great pain to them. Failure to change or failure to cope with change causes them to worry too much. To worry from time to time is normal but excessive worrying leads to anxiety attacks or panic disorders.
Anxiety attacks or panic disorders are symptoms of stress that can affect a normal person. People may experience inefficiency at work, mood swings or sudden behavioral changes. It can also increase the likelihood of an appearance of diseases and illnesses in the body. Panic attacks are usually an irrational or illogical fear and there are medication for anxiety attacks available today.
People suffering from these symptoms need not worry because the advance in technology that causes them to suffer is also the cure for their predicament. Nowadays, there are several help for panic disorder sufferers. There are psychotherapy and medications available today.
The so-called cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) falls under the psychotherapy treatment. This treatment requires the gradual exposure treatment therapy. CBT requires two components to be considered effective. These are the:
a) Behavioral component
b) Cognitive component
The behavioral component seeks to change the person’s perception of the situation that causes him anxiety. For example just by seeing a group of people in the office causes stress to a person, the behavioral component will try to reassess the situation in such a way that the sufferer will no longer view the group of people as a source of stress but instead a very friendly people needed in life.
The cognitive component meanwhile helps people become aware and change their usual thinking pattern. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can also be accomplished thru group sessions where everybody will be required to share and release their worrisome experiences.
There are also medications for anxiety attacks available today. There are two classes of medication that can be administered to the sufferer. These are the:
a) Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI)
b) Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors (SNRI)
These are all antidepressants which are used to relieve or cure anxiety attacks.
It is common for people to be under stress sometimes. It helps us to be on our toes and makes us alert from time to time. However, excessive stress for a continuing period of time can be harmful to our health. If you notice symptoms of this kind of disorder seek medical and professional help immediately.
The lesson to be learned in this situation is the cliché “Prevention is better than cure.” is truer today than ever before. Technological advances is a gift that must be appreciated and we should learn to “roll with the punches” or try to “pull yourself together” so they say.
