Ask Misty: Boy Suffers from Agoraphobia and Panic attacks

38

Dear Misty, I'm a twenty year old gay boy living in Vancouver BC, I suffer from OCD and panic attacks among other phobias since I was nine years old. On my birthday (Aug 1) the three only friends I had decided to call me on the day of my birthday to tell me they would not be coming over because they didn't want to be friends anymore because of my anxiety problems. I guessed they found it to much to deal with. Now my question is, since my birthday, I have been inside my house everyday and devolved social anxiety, I'm scared to leave my house, and I don't have friends to talk to, or help me leave. I feel lost, confused, and frustrated. I'm tired of living with anxiety, it has ruined my life. How can I make new friends when I'm scared of having a panic attack out in public? asked by TheCircus This is OBVIOUSLY a VERY REAL and DIFFICULT question to answer… Witness as I try my best in this VLOG… but I will also repeat myself here in saying that I DO BELIEVE you need to seek a therapist and start to iron out the wrinkles that plague you. If anything… it just helps to talk about things that bother you :)

dealingwithpanicattacks.info Overcoming social anxiety There is a Cure for Social anxiety disorder In a vast majority of cases and with the help of treatment ,from a professional, it is possible that a person ceases to suffer repeated panic attacks. But it is important to see a doctor who can confirm the diagnosis and recommend appropriate therapy for each case. Current treatments usually consist of psychological therapies that help us understand that there are many people who suffer the same thing, this is a very common condition, you are not going crazy and, you're not going to die from this. It aims to achieve a cognitive restructuring, ie, to change the thinking of the patient. Once the patient begins to feel more positive, optimistic and realistic about their problem, the therapist will help you identify the "trigger" that often causes your panic attacks. This may be a thought, a certain situation, a certain activity or something as subtle as a slight change in heartbeat. Once the patient identifies what, if anything, acts as a trigger, you can learn to control the symptoms that come later. The last phase of social anxiety treatment often focuses on helping the patient to perform those activities that they usually avoid because of the fear of causing a panic attack. This is to make you see firsthand, that they are not afraid to these activities themselves (driving into crowded places, drinking coffee, getting on an airplane, public speaking …..).They are actually

I used to have anxiety attacks/agoraphobia. Seek treatment with a cognitive therapist. Some of them make house calls

I have lived with this for so long and hard to cope every day. My kids suggested I try making youtube videos to help with the social anxiety so that is what I am doing right now. Every video I have done so far with me having to talk even to a camera is terrifying but I will keep trying. I would love to get over this like you have done. Bless you

hollybee43 @ 1:03 pm #

This is not social anxiety, this is panic attacks……

Bigbronco16 @ 2:02 pm #

You know, I do the same thing. As long as I don't have to "meet and greet" I'm fine, but let me see someone I know who wants to talk to me and I freak out. I do talk to them but I usually have to go "hide" somewhere afterward.

iusub2 @ 3:01 pm #

DkStylO @ 3:09 pm #

NoobsUnitedForever @ 3:35 pm #

Can't wait for your next vid. This was great XD!!!!

I was in therapy for two year along with medication. It did help to some extent, but I'm aloof by nature so it always seems to everyone like I don't want anything to do with them. I live by myself so I do OK for the most part.

HeroSmashXellos @ 4:14 pm #

wow great job!!

bestmed123 @ 6:37 pm #

wonderful

lobrigada2011 @ 7:36 pm #

I know what you mean. Overthinking things in my own head is bad enough; I don't need to bring a professional in on my mindspace unless there are clear expectations set from the first meeting. All things considering, I might try it.

laaddiss @ 7:50 pm #

I've been considering therapy and I have been to a therapist before. I feel like I need to see somebody who can prescribe medication though, because the people I have seen have only discussed issues. I feel like I've analyzed myself so much in my head it's not always good for me to talk about it over and over again. Maybe I'll go back though.

lastcallband2011 @ 8:00 pm #

loved it

filthysock @ 8:54 pm #

@gamesmoviesetc
Sounds like me… and I classify it as Social Anxiety…. the most embaressing thing is if you do the same movement at the same time as the person you are talking with. It's ridiculous… It just feels like you are overly mentally aware of social situations…

hjerneStimulanz @ 9:39 pm #

what do she say the cure is?

welikecheese1 @ 9:53 pm #

yes and I am living proof there are only a few things Ive tried that have worked except for drugs and drinking and, this is one of them I am doing so much better now GOOD LUCK to u

DylanHDxD @ 9:54 pm #

"I feel so scared! Every time I go out I have this horrible feeling in my stomach Can this really help me

withheldable3 @ 10:20 pm #

this sound great im gona try it for sure

MW3xNews @ 10:56 pm #

I never got this but i know someone who has. These techniques and others I learned from a person who had used this program to control their own anxiety attacks and it also worked for me. There are answers and ways to completely eliminate panic attacks without drugs for life.

chickenman0800 @ 11:47 pm #

I am on Vilift and it's the only thing that helped me with my depression and panic attacks. it's simply the best.

The programme works! End of, uncomfortable yes but worth it. The only problem I have with it are mainly religious but it does work! You can't overcome anxiety long term with magic or some replacement therapy, facing the symptoms and allowing them to move through you is the most natural and fastest way to end anxiety.

gamesmoviesetc @ 12:54 am #

Well i don't know if i am having serious or just mild social anxiety. haaha, i am always HIGHLY aware of people around me and how they feel and how i should react the right way. I am always scared to move too much or just scratch my nose in some circumstances , it just made me nervous and discomforting.Mostly i just want to be transparent haha.
