Several Ways to Stop Anxiety Attacks
Worrying from time to time is normal. In fact life would not be complete if there are no challenges or obstacles that would allow us to think, ponder and find solutions to it. It is normal to worry if we are going to arrive at the office on time or if the report we have submitted is complete.
However, it is no longer normal when we worry too much. It is not normal when we constantly worry over things over and over again to the point that it affects our everyday living and lifestyle. It is not normal when we can no longer eat nor we can no longer do ordinary things like going out of the house. These are cases of heightened anxiety level and this is a serious matter that needs attention. If this happens we need to seek help for anxiety attacks immediately.
Everyone may be subject to this disorder. This affects not only the weak of mind nor those with weak personalities. Ordinary people like you and I may also suffer from this disorder.
Most experts blame the current lifestyle changes that we have today. Because of technological advancement we tend to live our lives a bit faster. The internet, cell phones, computers, laptop have one way or the other helped make our lives better. But some people were unable to muster enough skill to cope with these changes. The result would be stress and pressures.
Most people have adapted to these changes in a positive way but not a few have adapted negatively. Those who reacted negatively failed to adopt resulting to increased anxiety levels and stress. In these cases, ways to stop anxiety attacks are quite important.
The factors that can lead to heightened anxiety levels or those things and situations that can make people stressed out include divorce, the passing away or death of a loved one, loss of livelihood, sufferings brought about by natural calamities like earthquakes, addiction to illegal drugs and other psychological reasons.
The common symptoms of anxiety attacks include faster heartbeat, the feeling that something bad is going to happen, sweating and palpitations, unable to sleep normally at night, loss of appetite, trembling and shaking, dry mouth among others.
However, we should not lose hope. Currently, the medical world offers solutions to stop anxiety attacks. Below are some of them.
First, is the so-called self help technique. In this category include the proper breathing technique which calls for a person to practice breathing to relax his or her body. Just take a deep breath and hold this for six to eight seconds. Slowly exhale and feel your body relax. Do this for several minutes and when you are in a very stressful situation just do the breathing technique.
Another self-help technique is the relaxation of the body. Practices making a specific muscle group in your body become tense. Then slowly relax this muscle. Do this with the other muscle group like the arms, neck, legs etc. This will teach you to have control of your body so that when a stressor comes you can immediately act in a relax manner.
Meditation also falls under this category. This calls for finding a quiet place and withdrawing from the things or situations that cause you stress. In that place you do not have think of anything just place yourself in a very tranquil and let all your worries fly away. If done properly, this technique will keep you away from taking medication for anxiety attack.
Then there are also the help given by drugs and other medication for anxiety attack. These are usually prescribed by medical professionals so before you take any of these it is better to visit your doctor first and seek his advice.
The doctor would probably prescribed that you take may include beta blockers, tricyclic anti depressants or the relatively new serotonin reuptake inhibitors. These can provide instant relief and can stop anxiety attacks.
But be careful though, some of these drugs have side effects that may cause reactions in your body. Again, it is better to seek the advice of your doctor first to be clear on the side effects.
