Anxiety Disorder Symptoms

Facing fear, worries and anxiety – you are not alone! All of us share the same problem everyday. Worries have always been part and parcel of our everyday life due to different factors inherent in the environment in which we live. Different people are affected by worries that are so distinctive and dissimilar that some may only be temporarily affected, however leaving some permanently disturbed. There are many people out there who are constantly plagued by worrying about many things that happen to them and their lives and this stigma of constant worrying in the lives of these people can itself developed into a medical condition known as anxiety disorder.

Endless fear, worry and anxiety may be a complicating condition and can have considerable impact in their lives not only mentally but both physically and psychologically. Anxiety disorder, being a kind of mental disorder can be disturbing and if ignored or left untreated, can potentially lead to physical and psychological complications. This kind of mental disorder problem is triggered every time the body prepares itself for a battle or fight condition when it intercepts potential danger or disaster. The rush of adrenaline and sudden hormonal changes accelerate the speed of the functioning of the various body parts and organs such as heart and brain, causing a heightened stress level, tension and anxiety.

The physical effects of anxiety disorder is characterized by discomfort in abdomen, fatigue, headache, dizziness, muscle ache, shortness of breath, frequent urination, difficulty swallowing, nausea and diarrhea, muscle tension and usually accompanied by pounding heart, sweatiness and faintness. During these attacks, the people may feel chilled or weak and they may experience tightness in chest and smothering sensations.

In addition to the physical conditions, anxiety disorder may manifest itself into psychological disorders that are not limited to conditions such as insomnia, lack of concentration and focus, excessive irritation, sudden anger, unexplained irritation, phobia, etc. People diagnosed with anxiety disorder can become overwhelmingly anxious or unable to focus and perform the daily routine works. They may find difficulty in keeping the reality in check and become excessively self conscious with various issues and worry about them for days or weeks even before a dreaded situation arises or happens.

In most situations, the emotional apprehension of people suffering with anxiety disorder can be significant. The people suffering from anxiety disorder can be so preoccupied with exaggerated concerns and worries over a variety of everyday problems even though there is little or nothing to provoke it. The fear may evolve into a more severe situation that may interfere with work, relationship and just any other ordinary activities; or even imagining an illness or death. They perceive threats and are overly concerned about health issues, financial stress, family problems, potential misfortunes, impending deadlines and many other difficulties in life. It is, in their opinions, difficult or impossible to get rid of these concerns even though their anxiety is more intense than the situation warrants. To this extent, the heightened obsessions that elicit anxiety and distress can get uncontrollable that they will be consumed by ill and unhealthy thoughts or impulses and act upon them.

It is therefore imperative that you seek to diagnose the condition with your doctor should you experience anxiety and identify the symptoms described above to determine whether the situation that you are facing is a normal mental problem or a medical condition. Your doctor will be able to systematically screen and identify whether the condition pertains to a mental health problem. If you have been diagnosed as having an anxiety disorder upon screening and consultation, then the condition must be attended and appropriate treatment and help needs to be obtained to overcome and control the symptoms.

Similar to many mental illnesses, anxiety disorder is more than the mere presence of anxiety, but the severity of anxiety spilling over other areas of life, affecting the way of life and activities. It can be recognized when the symptoms associated with anxiety disorder described above are persistent in the vicious cycle of exacerbated worries with little or nothing dangerous or threatening to bring the body into the ‘fight or flight’ situation.

Do not fear to seek help and consultation with a qualified doctor if you suspect that you are suffering from anxiety disorder. The purpose of the consultation is to confirm whether the symptoms that you are facing are symptoms of anxiety disorder or another medical condition or just any other physical conditions. If you are diagnosed with anxiety disorder, the doctor will advise you the course of treatment and help that you required based on the diagnosis. Take action to control and cure the condition; and help yourself! Bear in mind that negligence and ignorance of a real medical condition can lead to impairment to recovery.
