Shih tzu puppies teeth grow from 4 to 6 months, therefore mouthing is very common then. Though mouthing is not biting, it can become aggressive in your shitzu to be tolerable. Besides, controlling this habit gets more and more challenging day-by-day so it is better to get rid of this habit at an early age.
Mouthing can become a technique for a shi tzu to try to control you, allowing them to take that first step in the direction of assuming a leadership role within your home. The following techniques are recommended for most puppies up to 4 months of age, depending upon their size.
Its the same for babies, a shih-tzu goes across the teething process. It is a normal habit of puppies of all kinds to use their mouth to look into the things around.
Providing suitable items for a dog to focus on can sometimes be a simple way of solving a mouthing problem. Indestructible chew toys like large nylon bones or hard rubber Kongs can supply a positive outlet for shitzu puppies. Huge rawhide bones and carrots can be put in the freezer and supplied to a teething puppy. Braided fiber bones dipped in chicken broth or water and then frozen are also a nice alternative.
The instant when your pup starts chewing on you just make him understand that you are in pain no matter if she has really nipped at your skin. Just let out a scream, by doing so she will be scared and will leave you.
One of the best method to be friendly with your pup is by giving back of your hand so that she can lick, by this way she gets habituated with you and understands that you are the caretaker.
Praise him in a calm manner if his response is immediate and provide him an appropriate chew toy. Do not offer a toy while your hand is still in his mouth, this will instigate the wrong behavior. You may also choose to assign a order like "no bite" or "no mouth", so he will associate his behavior with your correction. This technique work with the average, eager-to-please pup.
If your puppy dont hear what you say, or is getting more and more nasty with people and also with you, its serious then. And he will continue doing the same until you train him not to.
